Reproductive Hormone Testing

Certain causes of infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hirsutism, and other problems may be a direct result of abnormalities with one or more of the reproductive hormones. At the CARMF, we have the capability to perform a comprehensive evaluation of your reproductive hormones in the comfort of our office and we have availability of staff and technicians seven days per week. The doctors at the CARMF are have years of experience in interpreting these test results and then can offer potential treatment options.

A cornerstone of the female fertility evaluation is the measurement of day three hormone levels including FSH, LH, estrogen, androgens, thyroid hormone, etc. Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is perhaps the most important hormonal test that a woman should undergo. Usually performed on day 3 of the menstrual cycle, this test can provide information about ovarian reserve and whether hormonal stimulation is likely to improve oocyte yield for fertility procedures. An abnormal, or high, FSH level can mean that it will be more difficult for the woman to conceive. The FSH level will be elevated in women who have reduced ovarian reserve and the degree of elevation correlates with "egg quality" and the chances of conception.
